All Change.....
After it seemed like the sun was set to stay and winter had well and truly been sent packing the weather has changed again this week to keep us on our toes.
Last week saw glorious sunshine and temperatures more usually associated with late spring skiing, hitting around 20 degrees in resort in Moriond. Although pleasant, those sort of temperatures over a prolonged period would be a disaster for the slopes so it is with some relief that we note the drop in temperatures again this week and a return of the snow.
So what has this changing weather done to the pistes? Despite warm temperatures and the arrival of thousands of French and British holidaymakers the conditions are still pretty decent out there. Granted some of the busier runs are a little hard packed and there is a little ice to be found on some of the sunnier slopes, but if you stay high and bear in mind the time you hit different pistes, you can still get a really good day’s skiing.
The weather forecast for the remainder of this week is for temperatures of around zero at 2,000m with some light snow due daily until Sunday. Wind should stay generally light with some brief periods of sunshine between snow showers. Looking further ahead it looks like we might be set for more snow next week, topping us up nicely and freshening what is becoming a slightly solid base. Whilst I realise long range forecasts are sketchy at best, we can but hope and dust off our powder skis again in readiness……
Courchevel’s 11th annual International Firework Festival continues this Thursday with the Spanish entry been launched from Moriond from 6.45pm. With mulled wine and a torchlit descent from ESF it’s a really nice way to start your evening if you’re in resort this week. If you’re visiting next week, fear not as the pyrotechnic entertainment will continue on Tuesday from the lake in Le Praz at 6.45pm with the German display to look forward to.
Also, if you’re out this month you might note some highly suspect moustaches around resort. It’s Mo March in Courchevel and men around the valley are growing their facial hair in support of Huck Cancer which supports Macmillan and Chambery Hospital.
There are lots of events going on throughout the month including Pub Golf (this week), a Valley Rally (next week) and Race Day towards the end so keep your eyes peeled for event posters while you’re out and about!
